Embark on a three-day private luxury escape from Melbourne and travel west along the legendary Great Ocean Road. This is one of the world’s truly great coastal drives, where sheer cliffs plunge into the Southern Ocean and every bend reveals another jaw-dropping view. Pause at Split Point Lighthouse and the iconic Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch, wander to Erskine Falls, take in the panorama from Teddy’s Lookout, and spot koalas at Kennett River. Explore the ancient forests of Great Otway National Park before unwinding in stylish comfort at Apollo Bay. Stand before the mighty Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, soar with Otway Fly Treetop Adventures, and visit Cape Otway Lighthouse. Savour stops at Timboon Fine Ice Cream, Schultz Organic Dairy, and Timboon Railway Shed Distillery before returning to Melbourne with unforgettable coastal memories.
Day 1 – Melbourne to Apollo Bay
Your private journey begins in Melbourne, travelling west along the iconic Great Ocean Road — a coastline that rivals California’s Pacific Highway and Cornwall’s wild Atlantic edges.
Pause at Split Point Lighthouse and the historic Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch for sweeping ocean views and classic photographs. From Fairhaven through Lorne, the scenery only becomes more dramatic. Take in the panorama from Teddy’s Lookout, then wander through fern-lined trails to Erskine Falls.
After lunch, visit Kennett River, one of the best places in Australia to spot wild koalas in the treetops. By late afternoon, arrive in the seaside village of Apollo Bay, where you’ll settle into stylish coastal accommodation and unwind beside the Southern Ocean.
Day 2 – Apollo Bay to Port Campbell
This morning begins beneath the towering trees of Maits Rest, an ancient rainforest alive with birdsong and cool, moss-covered forest floors.
Continue to the historic Cape Otway Lighthouse, built in 1848 and standing high above Bass Strait. Known as the “Beacon of Hope,” it was the first sight of land for thousands of migrants arriving in Australia after months at sea. The stories of the Shipwreck Coast add depth and drama to this breathtaking clifftop setting.
Next, experience the rainforest from above at Otway Fly Treetop Adventures. The elevated walkway stretches 600 metres through the canopy, rising 25–30 metres above the forest floor. Climb the Spiral Tower and feel the gentle sway above Young’s Creek — an exhilarating yet serene perspective of the Otways.
After lunch, descend Gibson’s Steps to stand on the beach beneath towering limestone cliffs. Later, check into your accommodation in Port Campbell. As sunset approaches and the crowds thin, witness the unforgettable Twelve Apostles glowing gold against the Southern Ocean — a moment that truly defines this coastline.
Day 3 – Port Campbell to Melbourne
Wake to more natural wonders along this legendary stretch of coast. Explore Loch Ard Gorge, hear the dramatic shipwreck story behind its name, then continue to London Bridge, The Grotto and the rugged beauty of Bay of Islands Coastal Park. Seeing these landmarks in the quieter morning light makes the experience even more special.
Turning inland, your journey becomes deliciously indulgent. Visit Schultz Organic Dairy, a multi-generational family farm producing exceptional organic dairy. At Timboon Railway Shed Distillery, sample handcrafted whisky and liqueurs inside a beautifully restored 19th-century railway shed. Finally, enjoy a sweet finale at Timboon Fine Ice Cream, where generations of dairy farming tradition are transformed into some of Australia’s finest ice cream.
Return to Melbourne in comfort, carrying with you the sights, flavours and stories of one of the world’s most magnificent coastal journeys.
