Day 1 – Melbourne to Echuca | Championship Golf & Murray River Wine Country

Your luxury Murray River golf escape begins at 8:00am with a private departure from Melbourne. As you leave the city behind, the landscape gradually changes from Melbourne’s suburbs to open farmland and the distinctive red-gum country of northern Victoria. After a relaxed journey of around two and a half hours, arrive in Echuca-Moama in time for lunch before your first round of golf.

Following lunch, tee off at Rich River Golf Club, one of regional Australia’s premier golfing destinations. Rich River offers two very different 18-hole championship courses. The West Course is the more traditional of the two, with tree-lined fairways, elevated greens and a tighter layout that rewards accuracy and thoughtful shot-making. At 5,923 metres from the men’s tees and playing to a par of 72, it has also hosted professional events. The East Course, measuring 5,809 metres and also a par 72, has a more open, links-style character, with water coming into play on several holes. Redesigned by legendary Australian golfer and course architect Peter Thomson, it offers a different challenge and a beautiful setting among eucalyptus trees, lakes and abundant wildlife.

Following your round, head into the surrounding Perricoota wine region. This is an opportunity to experience a side of Australia that many visitors never see, quiet country roads, vineyards and small-scale producers creating wines in a distinctly Australian setting. Enjoy a tasting at a carefully selected local winery, with the opportunity to meet the people behind the wines and sample regional varieties. The wider Murray region is home to a number of established wineries, including St Anne’s, Morrisons, Cape Horn and other boutique producers, with experiences ranging from intimate cellar doors to vineyard and food pairings.

After your tasting, return to your accommodation for dinner and a relaxed evening. It is the perfect introduction to three days that combine exceptional golf with the food, wine, history and landscapes of the Murray River.

Day 2 – Championship Golf, Historic Echuca & Paddlesteamer Cruise

After breakfast, return to Rich River for your second round of golf. Today, play the course you didn’t experience on the first day, giving you the chance to appreciate the completely different character of Rich River’s two layouts. The East Course’s open, links-inspired design and strategically placed water provide a contrasting experience to the tighter, tree-lined West Course. The club has invested significantly in both courses, including improvements to water hazards, bunkering, fairways and irrigation, helping maintain excellent playing conditions throughout the year.

After golf, enjoy lunch before heading into historic Echuca. The afternoon begins at the Port of Echuca, where the story of the Murray River comes to life. Echuca was once one of Australia’s great inland ports, with paddle steamers transporting wool, grain and other goods along the river. Today, the historic wharf and surrounding heritage buildings preserve that remarkable period of Australian history.

From the historic port, board a genuine Murray River paddlesteamer for a leisurely cruise. Sit back and watch the enormous river red gums slide past as the paddlewheel turns through the water. This is one of those wonderfully distinctive Australian experiences that feels a world away from the usual tourist itinerary—a chance to slow down and experience the Murray River in much the same way travelers have for generations.

After returning to the wharf, enjoy some free time to explore Echuca’s historic waterfront or simply return to your accommodation and relax. The evening is free for a leisurely dinner.

Day 3 – Final Round, Great Aussie Beer Shed, & Melbourne

After breakfast, enjoy your third and final round at Rich River Golf Club. Depending on your preferences, we can arrange another round on your favorite course or use the final morning to complete a three-round experience across both the East and West layouts. With the tranquil Murray River landscape, towering eucalyptus trees and beautifully maintained fairways surrounding you, it is a memorable way to finish your golf experience.

After golf, enjoy a relaxed regional lunch before visiting one of Echuca’s most unexpected attractions, The Great Aussie Beer Shed & Heritage Farm Museum. This is far more than a beer museum and makes for a wonderfully entertaining Australian experience. The collection brings together four fascinating areas, including the Great Aussie Beer Shed’s enormous collection of Australian beer memorabilia, the Heritage Farm Museum, the Beer Stein and Horse-Drawn Carriage Museum, and Jack’s Shed Car Museum. With more than 20,000 beer cans and memorabilia alongside historic farm machinery, horse-drawn vehicles and vintage automobiles, there is something here for almost everyone—even guests who aren’t particularly interested in beer.
